Beyond the Polish Language: Sky Adventures!!!

While the UNESCO protected city of Krakow and its environs is most widely known for its history, culture, art and architecture, we have decided to show a markedly different face of this region. Southern Poland is not only a charming place, steeped in rich culture and history, but is also a place of exciting summer fun and adventure! With this in mind we are offering three exciting "sky adventure" tourist options for our 2007 Polish language course participants. Please note that these options are available summer only and are only available weather permitting and with minimum group sizes.

  Tandem Sky-Diving in Southern Poland

1. Hot Air Balloon Rides

Take off into the beatiful blue sky in a large multi-coloured 12 person hot air balloon! For 250 Euros you will be treated to spectacular and panoramic views in the skies of southern Poland. Ballooning has been described by some as feeling as if you're suspended in the wind. Watch as the earth appears to be turning below, as the horizon rises as you dip to kiss the treetops, then falls away until the landscape spreads to incredible dimensions. A mere whisper of wind on your cheek tells you that the balloon has changed direction, moving with the breezes through the crystal blue sky. This course offering is being provided jointly with a firm with many years experience in the area of hot air balloon piloting and sky advertising. For more information and pictures please visit www.balloon.pl. Please note that both the exact timing and location of this offering during a particular session is dependent on weather conditions. Thus, depending on weather conditions and student interest the balloon ascent will either take place outside of Krakow (giving a breath-taking view of the city) or nearer the mountains (giving a spectacular view of the Tatra mountains). The promotional cost of 250 Euros for this option covers the cost of the balloon ride (approximately 1 hour) as well as transportation between the school and take-off location and refreshments/lunch. The price quoted above is based on a group of

3. Tandem Sky-Diving

Krakow is not only the cultural capital of Poland but is also the centre of the nation's military airborne training operations; indeed the red berets of the paratrooper are a common and distinctive site on the streets of Krakow. This strong link with the sky is a reflection of tradition and the legacy of the 1st Independent Polish Airborne Brigade that fought in the famous Battle of Arnhem in the Netherlands in 1944. Our students will be able to experience this tradition first hand under the capable care and expertise of sky divers and instructors with extensive military and civilian experience. Experience the natural thrill and exhiliration of diving out of an aircraft from over 3000 meters! Sky-diving has often been described as a "thrill of a lifetime". The free fall period during sky-diving is the closest one can get to experiencing the feeling of 0-gravity, short of going into outer-space! Thanks to recent developments in equipment, you can experience a breathtaking introduction to sky-diving on your very first jump! A specially qualified Tandem Master Instructor will thoroughly brief you on the equipment and the jump you are about to enjoy, without the need for lengthy training. Specially made double-sized canopies will give you the ride of your life! What is more, the adjustable tandem harness allows for various body-types (from petite to robust girths) and furthermore, age is not a factor!. Thus, whether you are 16 or 60; this experience can be yours! Please note that the exact timing of this offering during a particular session is weather dependent. The promotional price of 300 Euros for this option covers the cost of the the sky-dive itself as well as pre-jump briefing/instruction, transportation between the school and airfield as well as refreshments/lunch. A video of your jump can be arranged for an additional 52 Euros. Click here for a video clip showing our expert sky-diving team members demonstrating a tandem sky-dive that you may experience. PLEASE NOTE: The video is a 9MB sized MPEG and may take some time to download. You may wish to "right click" on the text link above and select "save target as" or "save link as" in order to first save the file to you computer before playing.

POLISH AVIATION RELATED CULTURAL AND CHARITABLE ENDEAVOURS:

As part of our mandate, the Cracovia Academy is also involved in projects of significant Polish historical and cultural importance.

Our first such project is particularly exciting as we will be working in official collaboration the with the Polish Aviation Museum Cracow (Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego w Krakowie) in the restoration of the Supermarine Spitfire IF Mark XVIe aircraft seen in the photograph below.

Polish Spitfire in Cracow Polish Aviation Museum

The restoration of this vintage WWII aircraft will be in honour of those thousands of Polish pilots and other members of the Polish armed services who fought and sacrificed their lives for freedom during the last World War as well as to honour all "knights of the air", regardless of nationality, who brought their skill and bravery to the skies over Europe in the 20th century. We hope that the restoration of this aircraft will act as a long standing testament to honour, freedom and bravery for generations to come.

We are also proud to announce our sponsorhip and patronage of Krakow-based WWII military aviation artist and painter, Piotr Gorka. For more information and to view the Polish aviation paintings of Mr. Gorka, click here.
